NY Theatre Now Review

Recognize Theatre presented the New York City premiere of Paraphilia: Everyone Has a Sexual Disorder, written by Lorne Svarc and directed by Kristin Heckler, as part of the 19th annual New York International Fringe Festival - FringeNYC. Come be a fly on the wall in Margo’s first sex therapy practice. She guides her clients through the ups and downs of their sexual disorders (pun intended) while learning about her own sexuality with her new beau.

Polite society doesn’t typically discuss sexual dysfunction. Paraphilia: Everyone Has a Sexual Disorder explores three unique kinks via three unique characters. Margo is a sex therapist with three clients.

As each client reveals more and more of his or her story, Margo begins to feel the effects of her work on herself and her love life. Canadian playwright Lorne Svarc has employed a deft combination of humor and social commentary in order to bring these taboo subjects to light in front of an audience.
